LUZ CASTANEDA
ARTIST STATEMENT
Luzia was born in Brazil to Brazilian and Spanish parents. Since 2014, she has been living and working as an artist in NYC. She was granted permanent residency in U.S. based on extraordinary artistic merit in 2019.
Luzia is a self-taught artist, a biologist, Ph.D. in Genetics, educator, and researcher in the sacred language of nature. Her research and artwork are a combination of her artistic soul and her scientific mind with the free spirit intertwining the two. The enchantment of nature, whether through science or through spiritual traditions based on nature, has been the source of inspiration for her creations.

Her series Urban Orishas was shown at ArtOnLink all over NYC. In 2019 and 2023, her series Rebirth and Healing Leaves were awarded by Queens Council on the Art.
